  1. What is included in a Shadepalapa hut kit?
Pre-cut lumber pre-drilled (some assembled)     |     Two layers of palm thatch for roof
Assembly hardware     |     Easy to follow set-up instructions     |     Fire retardant available (certificate to be issued)
  2. What type of wood is used?
We use bamboo or pressure treated lodge pole pine.
  3. How long before I need to replace the thatch for the roof?
In temperate climates 5 -7 yrs. In winter climates a bit less depending upon winterized care. Only the top layer of thatch should need replacing after years of use.
  4. How easy is it to replace the thatch?
Replacing the layers of thatch is easy. Simply figure your square foot area and add 15% to the total that is needed per layer. Just staple the pre woven sheets of thatch in place starting with the bottom and as you move up overlap the sheets.
  5. Do you sell replacement thatch?
Yes, we sell thatch in panels and rolls. Also, many other palm leaf and bamboo products including fencing, privacy screens, umbrellas, matts, and rugs.
  6. Does the thatch hold up in the wind?
If properly installed the thatch will hold up to winds of 60 mph. Thatch is hand woven and allows for air to flow through it; unlike the canvas used for canopies and umbrellas.
  7. Are the Shadepalapas water resistant?
The double layer of thatch if installed as instructed will keep water out.
  8. How do I install a Shade Palapa?
Shadepalapa kits are a simple do-it-yourself project. Installation is a breeze, dig or core a hole, construct the frame, and staple the pre-woven thatch tops on the frame.
  9. Can I install a Shadepalapa on a concrete, stone patio, or wood deck?
Yes, for concrete or stone just core an 8 inch hole and dig down 18 inches or so with a post hole digger. Check with your local building code for proper depth and fastening requirements in your area. For wood or composite decks use a bracket to attach posts to deck surface.
  10. Do I need fire retardant material for my Shadepalapa?
If you are using your Shadepalapa in a commercial setting then yes, it is required.
If your Shadepalapa is for residential use then you do not have to use fire retardant material .. it is your choice.
